the past few nights i have fallen asleep to rain on the trees that reach up beyond the window next to my head. have i mentioned how green it is here? green everywhere, i keep thinking. the grape arbor on the dirt road must run for at least a mile, and i'm hoping i will still be here when the clusters ripen into deep purple and sweetness.
my mom and i covered the blueberry bushes tonight with a huge old net to keep the birds away. then i jumped the fence to pick corn for dinner again. it's the third night in a row i've crunched like a 5 year old on cobs so fresh. the earth smells like worms here, and the humidity is so strong my hair is a whole new level of curly.
i am loving the Kodaly class. we sing and play games and contra dance like children. we read and remember through the history and story of folk. we sing and breathe together in four part harmony with open vowels. we stretch our ears to sing solfege in chord progressions and interval patterns until my brain hurts and i can't find the "do". i appreciate the new material so much, and imagine my teaching path coming alive again before me. it is great to be among colleagues, and i am pleasantly surprised by the feeling of new friends.
