in the spirit of thanksgiving...

i had a friend that once called me on her own birthday, to thank me for the friendship we shared throughout that year. it's a good thing to know how blessed you are on your birthday.

i have felt acutely the ways i have needed loved ones around me during the change from twenties to thirities these past weeks. it's been a time to ask for what i need, to enjoy the company of amazing people, to share even when words don't explain everything. a time of both celebration and mourning. a time of knowing both my imperfections as someone broken and sometimes self absorbed, and my great value as a daughter beloved.

it's been a humbling time and a time of rejoicing.

i am aware strongly of how impossible life would be without the sustinance of relationship with others. without those who have listened, blessed, hugged, and wept with me these last years. for those who have encouraged and laughed and sat with me, shared meals and beer, dreams and songs and long walks. for all the emails and phone calls and plane rides. for post cards and flowers and carrot cake. for thoughts from a distance when months pass by too quickly.

for those who have allowed me the space to be imperfect and overwhelmed with the complexity of it all. for those who have understood, or not but loved me anyways.

for those who have forgiven me when i haven't been able to return the love as well as i've wanted to. who've been patient while the spirit and i work it all out on this journey that is becoming more joyful all the time.

what i know these days is that it is all ok somehow. that the spirit is here with me. that i am on the true path. that i have two parents that love me and will do anything to help. that i live in a home made beautiful by dreaming, patience, and my own hands. that prayers are being answered. that i love to wear dresses and buy shoes. that my girlfriends stand out as precious treasures in my life. that i am a teacher. that my 30's will surprise and amaze me. that i can climb mountains. high ones. that i cry just as much as always but laugh more too.

thank you.
