things that caught my attention...
while walking.
chocolate brown legs on brand new roller blades. not dark, milky. matching track suit in a blue like snowcones at the fair passes me. optimism in a pony tail. she smelled like powder and something else. applied in the bathroom of a home scrubbed clean, quiet at night where family sleeps on fabric softened sheets. never gone hungry. lotioned skin and people waiting for her to get home. springtime.
x-rays.
the gentle hand on my hip searching for the edge of me. will the metal circles really protect my uterus? sterile ceiling and big machines make me feel small. i am 30. grown up. alone on this table. breathe. don't breathe says the voice of gentle hands. all grown up. my bones lit up in shades of grey. curve of spine and ribs. my ribs. water in my eyes.
hunger.
brown rice with veggies. add edamame and teriyaki tofu. sesame. steaming hot.
the psalms.
only in god is my soul at rest.
you hem me in behind and before.
my stronghold.
why have you forsaken?
i will lift my voice.
where does my help come from?
sage.
it grows now. changing everyday. it looks happy, stretching, expanding. i marvel that i have done nothing. this is what plants do. especially ones born here in this land. they grow. they like the sun, the rain when it comes and the heat for many months. they live here. flourish.
i don't fight with them. i don't water. i let them be. admire. smell. celebrate.
it feels like harmony. like chords that match. like there is power in the earth. like i don't have to work. just be. relax. rest.
