today i took a vacation in los angeles. i mean, i live here. but sometimes you need to wander all day long with a friend you have not seen in many months. to sit for hours at the cafe. to walk along the beach. to buy an over the shoulder bag of orange and green and pink for a $10 dollar bill and drink ice coffee slowly. to wear sunglasses all day and laugh remembering and hoping. to ask where shall we go next. discover tapas at the place i always looked at through the window. drink a whole carafe of sangria and eat the fruit too. talk like women do, more and more, rest in exactly what this day has brought. see a good movie at the last minute. linger in the driveway and notice the crickets. take my time settling in to sleep.
