i played piano for my girlfriends' students' violin recital this weekend. it was the most professional fun i've had for a while... surpising that mississippi river and dixie with 8 year old beginning violists would thrill me so much... but in the collaboration of musicians, in the magic silence that comes in between that last chord and the enthusiastic clap of parents and friends, in the shy smile of a job well done, i find an adrelaline that suites me and feels alive. i've always considered myself an educator, not a performer... but as i practice bach sinfonia on my upright at home, i dream of hosting a piano recital where people can come and listen. i imagine sharing freely through genuis borrowed and made my own. and where performance and education meet, i see new light in the eyes of children, and want to be in that place with them as often as possible.
